In January 2026, the Netherlands Scientific Climate Council (WKR) published its advisory report titled 'To choose or to lose. The transition towards an industry fit for a future-proof Netherlands'. In this report, the WKR addresses the crucial choices needed to make the Dutch energy-intensive industry future-proof. The core of the report: without a structural transformation of the industry, support for specific sectors, and greater public engagement, there will be insufficient room for the energy-intensive industry.
