International context
The WKR aims to contribute to the international body of knowledge on climate change and to establish strategic collaboration with other councils. The WKR is member of two networks that focus on international collaboration between councils working on climate issues: the International Network of Climate Councils (ICCN) and the European Environment and Sustainable Development Advisory Councils network (EEAC).
ICCN network
The International Climate Councils Network (ICCN) was launched in 2021 as a forum for climate councils from around the world to share experiences, discuss common challenges and support one another in their work.
The ICCN’s mission is to facilitate collaboration and mutual support between climate councils from around the world. The ICCN also aims to support the development of new climate councils as expert, evidence-led organisations to guide and oversee delivery of climate change mitigation and adaptation.
EEAC network
The European Environment and Sustainable Development Advisory Councils network (EEAC Network) brings together advisory bodies established by national or regional governments or parliaments. EEAC members offer independent advice to their respective national or regional governments and parliaments related to climate change, the environment and sustainable development.
Eighteen advisory bodies from fourteen European countries and regions are member of the EEAC network. With representatives from academia, civil society, the private sector and public bodies the EEAC network brings together experts with years of experience producing independent advice.
